About Reece Howell

Reece Howell is a traditional and digital painter residing in Milwaukee. Growing up he spent much of his summers with his father exploring the northern woods of Wisconsin, fishing, hiking, camping, the same experiences many Midwestern kids have. His mother had a career in the medical field, he remembers copying anatomical drawings from her medical textbooks by her side as she worked from home. Now in adulthood looking back those are some of his most cherished memories. In his work he explores relationships and shared moments of the human experience.

He is Interested in trauma and healing processes of the body and mind. He is also affected by nostalgia, always seeing how the good memories seem to shine through the bad.

Reece knew at a young age that all he wanted to do was pursue a career in art, after high school He attended the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in the spring of 2015. During his undergraduate studies he learned about digital tools and their relationship to contemporary art making. He aims to incorporate digital components to bring the traditional media of painting into new dimensions.

Today Reece is a painter working in the mediums of traditional oil, digital painting, and also mural. He has participated in group shows around Milwaukee, as well he assists and heads on projects creating murals around the city. He continues to pursue his interests in the human experience and pushes to connect with his audience at a deeper level through his work.
