The Story Behind Indiana Green

June 04, 2018 in Contemporary Art, Abstraction, Artist Talk, Collage, Drawings, Installation, Mixed Media, Paintings, Photography, Printing, Sculpture, Studio Practice, Video, Watercolor, Wisconsin Art

Indiana Green started in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 2010. It was curated by artist, Frank Juarez, as a way to recognize artists who have supported him and his practice. What was supposed to be a one-year exhibition gradually grew gaining the attention of artists living and working in Wisconsin. If you are wondering about the name, Indiana Green, well the name was influenced by the location of the first exhibition, Greenseed Studio on Indiana Avenue.

In 2013, Juarez brought in Melissa Dorn to assist as a co-curator. Today, they continue to work together. From 2010 to 2016, Indiana Green has been held in Sheboygan, Wisconsin with the exception of its 5th year anniversary at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

In 2017, Indiana Green has begun to be exhibited across the state of Wisconsin. It has featured 74 artists and is entering its 9th year. This year it will be making its debut at Parts Unknown Studio in Milwaukee.
